Post noble (if misplaced) religious sentiment

From Bob Ray Sanders of the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram:

Quote:
In the name of God, Jehovah or Allah, can't we stop the slaughtering of people in the name of religion?
In the name of God, Jehovah, Allah, Jah, Buddha, Krshna or (fill in the blank with the name of a tribal deity whose priests are responsible for endless violence), probably not.

In the name of tolerance, humanity, understanding, kindness, possibly. Just possibly.

I was acquainted with Bob Ray long ago and very pleased to know such a classy person. Good to see he's still finding ways to express his good character. Thanks for the posting.

I heard a similar sort of thing years ago from an Irish Catholic priest at a time when IRA members or sympathisers in jail had embarked on a hunger strike. He said

"I'm tired of hearing about people 'dying for Ireland'. I think it's about time peole started living for Ireland."
