Post Open invite to join debates with two creationists...

I've been having a running two month debate with a couple of "fundies".

We have two relatively recent threads open. One on ID and one more or less on along the lines of transitional fossils and Punk-Eek vs gradualism.

The threads are on the EZBoards and passwords are free if you don't have one. Feel free to join in--I'm sort of outnumbered. Be warned though, they can tinge to the ugly side (I'm guilty myself as I have lost patience and become seriously sarcastic.)

The threads are here:
<a href="http://pub93.ezboard.com/finsidecarolinafrm7.showMessage?topicID=1697.topic " target="_blank">ID thread</a>

and,

<a href="http://pub93.ezboard.com/finsidecarolinafrm7.showMessage?topicID=1650.topic " target="_blank">fossils/punk-eek</a>

Just as a note on the latter thread. I didn't start it, I just piled in out of disgust at the appalling ignorance.

Speaking of ignorance here are some gems from the threads:
Quote:
The reason Gould and others say that species tend to indicate "stasis" not evolution over time is that within the life of the species on earth, there is change, but it vascillates between a median.
Quote:
Esoll, who was it that quoted here the famous horse evolution that we were all taught. It has been debunked. Evolutionists admit it. A lot of this whale stuff will go down the tubes in a few years too. They have fabricated walking whales.
Quote:
PC, the suppossed publications you think are valid, i think are mere propoganda organs, including the peer-reviewed articles endorsing evolution. You are like the old Soviet apologist who quotes Pravda as somehow authoritative.
This one is one of my favorites coming from a guy who uses AiG and TrueOrigins as his "science" sources.

and, finally, my favorite quote of all:
Quote:
Also, I have been learning more about creationism. They definetly exhibit a higher caliber of scholarship than the evolutionists.
Come join the fun, and, feel free to offer any advice/info here on paleontology info or explanations of punctuated equilibrium vs phyletic gradualism. I'm sorta not up to speed in that area, but I'm determined to straighten out my pet fundies confusion over the two concepts. They don't have to believe in it--just realize the difference in the two and that they are not mutually exclusive ideas.

The latter may be hopeless, but I'm a hard-headed sort.

Since they seem to like quoting Gould so much, here's a Gould quote for them:

Quote:
“Since we proposed punctuated equilibria to explain trends, it is infuriating to be quoted again and again by creationists — whether through design or stupidity, I do not know — as admitting that the fossil record includes no transitional forms. Transitional forms are generally lacking at the species level, but they are abundant between larger groups.”

Good luck,

Michael

I skimmed through some of the posts there... and frankly, I think that your time would be more productively spent trying to teach a pig to read a newspaper.

Anyway, I hope that you are hanging out there solely for entertainment purposes; otherwise you'll end up tearing your hair out...

hehe...that's good S2focus. Thanks for the laugh.

I hang out there for stress relief. Better to verbally assault a creationist than to kick the cat or argue with my wife.

I don't think my "pig" will be reading a newspaper anytime soon. He's to busy reading the "higher caliber of scholarship" found on AiG and TrueLies...er, TrueOrigin.

My "pig" does assure me that when he dies he will fly off to heaven while I'll be buying my ticket from Charon to cross the river Styx. Perhaps then AiG will have a report of a pig flying and say it was an example of "Intelligent Design".

I admire your tenacity, psuedobug, but I gotta agree with S2Focus--they're far too caught up in their conspiracy theories and delusory beliefs about science. You should take up a healthier habit, like cutting off your fingers or <a href="http://www.armchair.mb.ca/~scissors/" target="_blank">jamming</a>.
