What is the basis of your moral code?
How do you form your ethics?
Is it based on a religious notion? If it's secular in nature then how did you come to form such moral views? |

Simply read through the threads in this forum, and you will find answers to your question throughout.
Or, in my case, read the Ethics Without God series I am posting. |

For me, a large part of it is based on empathy--the Golden Rule.

Mine is based on total amount of unhappiness versus total amount of happiness caused by an act. It's sometimes hard to judge, but that's what a brain is for.

These are the rules I live by:
1. If it hurts no one, its perfectly okay. 2. If there's a cost/benefit tradeoff between a smaller and a larger group, the larger group should get the benefit. 3. Long term benefits are more important that short-term ones. 4. If there is no justification for an action or belief, it shouldn't exist. Now, I of course have an irrational side... if human feelings interfere with the equations, emotion will usually win... although I think I'm good about sticking by rules 1 and 4. But I'll let 4 slide if it avoids angering someone. I can't believe I spent over 40 minutes writing this. Never really thought about it before, and it was hard to figure out...[ |

I have no moral ; I see no reason to limit my own choices and possibilities. I live my life true to my inner desires and I let my emotions and reason determine my path, regardless of the consequences.

I got my sense of right and wrong from comic books when I was a kid.
