Post Public School Sign

I was driving by a school the other day (a high school) and the sign they have out front (posting sporting events and all of that stuff) said "In God We Trust". Are they legally allowed to post that?

Sadly, yes. It is the national motto and its constitutionality (Note: It is not) has not been ruled on.

You could always suggest that "UNITED WE STAND" would be far more appropriate for a "public" school motto.

No, the motto has to recognize the Judeo-Christian "God" or else it is anti-American!

Well, that is what the reactionaries would say, and they control the government.
