Post Advice from a lawyer

I was seeing my lawyer about a guardianship procedure.Only to found out that my 12 year old grandson was undecided as to who he wanted to live with. My lawyer's reply was...."Back off, it's in God's hands now." I said, when is the last time "God" came and handled a problem for you? Why is that people think that god is the one that is going to fix our problems? If he is so good in fixing thing why does this problem exist.

I've got some legal advice: Find a new lawyer. Preferably one that's not a god-bothering idiot.

Could it be that it's just a figure of speech? Since most of the people the lawyer interacts with are probably believers of some stripe, maybe it's just a way of telling those people to relax.

Of course, anyone who believes is a "god-bothering idiot" so maybe you should just fire the lawyer and find someone new. We all know how inept believers are--how could they be real professionals and be such dolts? For crying out loud, go get you an infidel attorney! It doesn't matter if she's just barely passed the bar and specialized in the tax code! Any non-believer would be better than someone who mentioned a deity in your presence!

Anyway, sorry about that rantishness. It's a good thing that you confronted your attorney about his(?) statement. Not only does it give him more insight into his client's life, but it may make him consider things that he hasn't before.

I think it would be ridiculous to change horses in mid-stream so to speak over a figure of speech. But, if you are offended by such insensitive comments, then on principle you should stop your business with him even if it negatively affects your case.

His beliefs aren't the issue, his actions are. Peeking said it himself, the guy would rather let 'god' deal with it instead of doing his job. You call that professional? He needs a lawyer, not a priest pretending to be one.

By the way I'm a woman, but thanks for the replies guys.
He is no longer my lawyer.

Again, I say: Could it be a figure of speech? Could it be a way to tell her to relax--in a way that the majority of people would understand?

I totally don't see where he's not doing his job by offering advice to Back off in this area. How would he do his job and make the grandson decide where to live? I don't think that's the attorney's choice.

As I see it, his advice was to back off and let the grandson decide and he added a turn of phrase that offended someone (maybe he was unaware of non-belief and simply assumed this would be comforting). Think of all the things you say in a day--do you really mean them literally?

Forgive me, but I can hardly believe that a non-believer would say "it's in God's hands" even if it were simply a figure of speech.

Is it possible it was just a figure of speech? sure. But look, Peeking was there; We were not. She knows the lawyer, the situation, and the conversation; We don't. So call me nuts if I'd rather trust her assessment than resort to uninformed second-geussing.
