Post Campus Crusade for Christ

Greetings.
Not sure if this is the right forum, but here goes:
Can anyone tell me about CCC: their thoughts, their experiences with them? I ask because my brother is a very active member. I have gone to their website, but find it difficult to wade through the mountains of religous propaganda (including such favorites as Ten Steps to Effective Witnessing and What To Do If Your Child Is Homosexual...or some such silliness). My grandmother (a devout Roman Catholic) is concerned that he's involved with "a cult". I just don't like that he's being fed some of this crap. So any thoughts or insights, please throw them my way. Many thanks.

Regards,
AbbyNormal

Oh, my. CCC does seem cultish to me, in that members can become completely absorbed into their beliefs and activities. But they aren't a cult in the same way that Scientology is a cult. I'm not sure what to offer you as advice, other than to let him be and (hopefully) grow out of it.

My experience with the CCC is that they tend to be dyed in the wool type of fundies. Not at all friendly to Catholic beliefs (hint: many probably feel the pope is the antichrist - not that you will find this in their official writings). But about all I know about them is that they are fundies.

I think it is a cult comparable to Scientology, although perhaps not quite as lucrative. Bill Bright gives you 4 easy steps to becoming a saved Christian and a Republican operative. L. Ron Hubbard gives you the "technology" to greater success.

I have read that CCC has more paid operatives than any other campus-based organization by a factor of about a thousand, but I don't have the source.

That has been my approach. It really seems like a phase to me more than anything else. He came upon them while having difficulty making friends at college and finding people that weren't only interested in drinking and drugs, etc. It's a support group, really. I'm glad he has been able to find a network of people he can relate to and have fun with.....just wish all this other crap didn't have to come along with it.

That sounds about right, based on what I have heard from him. It makes family gatherings occasionally interesting when he and my (Catholic) grandmother start "debating".

I once engaged in a debate with a bunch of them at a Kampus Krusade for Khrist event.

I got the feeling that the were just a little more hard-core into Christianity than most other Christians, and they came off a little bit superior because of it.

It's basically a more tight-nit group of Jebus-lovers who continually reinforce each other's beliefs, you have nothing more to worry about than your brother becoming more immersed in Jebus than ever( if that doesn't bother you)

Actually, I haven't had much experience with them here yet. Usually the Mormons or the Victory Collegiate Ministry are the folks who seem to find me. I've also run into a few Chi Alpha people from time to time.

The one time I ran into a KKK member is when they were handing out flyers to some event. No discussion, they just handed me the flyer. It involved some "She said 'yes'" thing and was basically a sermon based on the Columbine shooting and some girl who said she was a Christian and got shot. I figured they had to be way out there to use somebody's misfortune to further their religion, and the flyer went immediately into the trash.

Anyway, that's the extent of my dealings with the KKK.

So many pranks to play in college...and so few groups so deserving of a Porky's caliber prank.

They exist here, but don't do anything. Here = NWMSU.

I think that specifically using the word "Crusade" says a lot about their thoughts of the rest of the world.

What if there was an organization called the Campus Jihad for Allah? I bet they'd all be locked up in an instant.
