Default Bruce Almighty

In this film, the Jim Carrey character answers people's prayers and the result is chaos, as all the Christians have prayed for their football teams to win, for them to win the lottery, and for their stocks to rise.

At least we know now what Christians really pray for!

Well hey, it's not like they're better than Average Joe. They take their wishes and turn it into prayer.

Jesus said: "ask and it shall be given."
Clearly a load of shite.

funny because the christianity presented in this movie was of a secular all inclusive variety that seem to be popular in comunities like this.

Phil, I'm a little confused. How can any theistic religion, or one of it's many component sects, be secular?

Perhaps you meant to write that you didn't like the movie?

I have not seen it myself, but only because it doesn't appeal to me in the least -- so I'll reserve comment.

secular in the sence that it is a generic type of religion which really does not adhere to any particular religious tennants. kind of like the "in god we trust" phrase on money. a sort of god created in man's image or the celebration of the god concept without really holdin any serious belief in his existence. do you know what i mean? think in terms of the easter bunny.

What would have happened if the Bruce character had answered the prayers of real Christians? Chaos, I imagine, what with world peace breaking out, cancer being cured etc etc. Little wonder Hollywood shied away from exposing the fallacy that there is a God who answers prayer.

Phil, I think we will have to agree to disagree!

Mind you, you quite accurately describe most of the so-called christians over here in England. I have long had a sneaking suspicion that most of them care not one jot for anything christian/religious in the least.

question is, steven, why didn't they show the healing prayers answered? certainly there must have been more than a few of them. also many prayers for salvation would have been answered.

do you know people who pray? what is it they are usually asking for?

I do know people who pray. I have seen them in locker rooms praying to win the football game.

I don't know why Hollywood did not show the healing prayers answered. Perhaps you can tell me.

What do you think would happen if God answered all the healing prayers?
