Post So much for the vaunted American "rule of law."

The reaction to the 9th Circuit Court ruling shows pretty clearly that politics in the United States has nothing to do with reason or rationality and everything to do with kneejerk emotional reactions.

So when we have a court ruling in favor of a minority that the majority doesn't like, we'll just ignore it or even contradict it. Pathetic.

This has happened before, of course ... the most current example I can think of is the brouhaha over gay marriage. When it seemed that Hawaii might rule in favor of legalizing gay marriage, nearly every state went out of its way to outlaw them, as did Congress with the ridiculous Defense Of Marriage Act.

So much for the 'rule of law' and the protection of minorities under the Constitution.

The Netherlands ARE starting to look good ... think they might accept a bunch of American atheist 'refugees'?

No kidding. The wave of religious hysteria sweeping the U.S. is absolutely sickening. I'm starting to feel like a stranger in my own country.

Not to be over-dramatic, but if my kids were grown and I had the money I would move to the Netherlands (or some similarly sane place) in a heartbeat. As much as I love my country, I am very near the end of my tether with these superstitious whackjobs.

I've actually been trying to think of a way to move out of the country for a while now.

Tonight I was debating with some fundie who used the Netherlands as an example of how awful a sex-positive, nonreligious state would be. He said that it wasn't a very "family friendly" society.

I asked him what the divorce rate was in the Netherlands ... turns out that it is 41%.

In the US it is 50%

Ha ha!!
