That's a good idea, nj_heathens. It's logical, but that's also what I'm worried about. The owner says direct deposit is too "Big Brother", his mother in law says it's a sign of the apocalypse, I'm not dealing with rational people unfortunately. It's worth it to try to show them some numbers though.

Like you would a normal person. :banghead:

So now I get twice as many checks and because my gross pay on each check is lower, I stay in a lower tax bracket. This crazy scheme is great. I take home about 20% more loot because of it.
Sounds really familliar.

That company's initials wouldn't be an H and a P, would it?

I'm not sure I understand exactly what is going on there, but if you really are paying in less than you should from your paychecks, you may get hit with a penalty come tax time next year. It almost happened to me one year when my employer screwed up my W-4 and had me in the system as married with 1 dependant when I was really single with none. When I did my taxes I owed over $1000. I would have had to pay a penalty except that I had payed in more that year than I owed the previous year. Had that not been the case, I would have been severly pissed!

I used to think direct deposit was great, mostly for the reasons people have mentioned. Then I read the small print. When you authorize your employer to deposit funds into your account, you are also giving permission for your employer to withdraw funds from your account.

This has nothing to do with GRD, so I am moving it to MD.

Exodus 20:27 Thou shalt not directy deposit thy livestock in thine bondservant's field on payday, nor shalt thou directly deposit thy livestock in thine neighbor's field in payment for coveting thine neighbor's wife or thine neighbor's ass.
28 Thou shalt instead hand over thy livestock to the hands of thine bondservant or thine neighbor, and they shalt deposit the livestock in the fields themselves.

Here in Sweden you never get a paycheck, your pay is automatically deposited to your salary account and the tax is deducted automatically aswell. The entire procedure of getting your salary as a check and having to cash it yourself seems quite a hassle.
It's a company-by-company decision here. There are no rules saying you have to offer it.

Danger!! This will come back to haunt you come April 15! The extra checks don't mean you owe less tax.

Their refusal to offer it is costing you, their employee, money. Unless their justification for refusing is financial, that's a bad faith business practice.

Mrs. Heathen
Years ago Wells Fargo had a similar offer. Unfortunately, my employer quit offering direct deposit. You got the same features with a $500 minimum balance otherwise.

Default Direct Deposit

I have direct deposit at one job, and no direct deposit at the other job. Having to go pick up my paycheck after 3:00PM on payday is a pain in the ass. It takes about 8 hours of my time each month because my one employer does not offer direct deposit. What's ironic is that my employer and I use the same bank! :banghead:

I am going to bring up the issue of direct deposit and hopefully they don't say, "It's a sign of the end of the world."
