Exclamation Help!

Lately some things have been unusual. I'm begginning to doubt my lack of beliefs! is that weird? I look around and I sometimes think that (please dont kill me) atheism is the result of arrogance.

I already feel that mankind wants to be God...I think that atheism is an extention on that. We as atheists, hate thinking that someone else might have soveriegnty(sp)over us, so we justify it by working hard to come up with ways to dismiss a higher power.

I'm not sure that I can still justify not believing in, if nothing else, some sort of intelligent agent that is on a higher level than us.

I just think that it is very arrogant and pompous to suggest that we are responsible for everything in this world. That and beneficial mutations.

I just dont want to be like most of the "believers" I know, they are so depandant on God that they forget to live thier lives and be real people.

*~point of this post follows*~

IS THERE A HAPPY MEDIUM?

what do you think? is it possible to at least acknowledge a higher power but not use this deity as a crutch?

I'm so confused!

"is it possible to at least acknowledge a higher power but not use this deity as a crutch?"

Check it out.

I fully acknowledge the possibility of god. It's something of a self-fulfilling prophecy, when you come down to it. Of course, his existence doesn't make any sense, according to the physical and logical rules he laid his own universe out by.

So either it's like the shamans say and we have to worship him for some ill-defined reason (in which case I thumb my nose at him and make vaguely obscene gestures from the pits of hell)...

OR, the shamans are wrong, and we've got to get by as best we can.

I'm willing to acknowledge the idea of god as a possibility. But it's not a very useful premise. It doesn't tell you anything about how to act or what this place is (though the shamans would tell you otherwise).

So I take the other premise. The shamans are wrong. And if there is a god, he's a devious, crafty bugger who is intentionally masking the truth of his existence. So bugger him anyway.

This really isn't coming out very well. It's too late in the evening. I'll try again tomorrow.

There are all sorts of higher powers than man. Gravity. The weak nuclear force. Electromagnetic attraction.

None of them seem very interested in us or seem to give us and sens of purpose. If wanting to flick a light switch is equivalent to wanting to be a god, mea culpa.

Well, I don't see anything wrong with acknowledging the possibility of a god. After all, it's possible that something we would consider a "god" exists somewhere else in the universe. However, I personally don't think there's reason to believe that there's a deity who cares what happens on Planet Earth.

Oh, and I also think this might have a better home in Miscellaneous Religion Discussions.
