Exclamation An Atheist call to arms

Friends, brothers, sisters, and fellow freethinkers, our time to act has come.

For too long have we sat passively and watched our great nation torn asunder by fundimentalists. For too long have we suffered injustice because of being a minority. We have been ridiculed, ostracised, and offended by our own puppet government. We all know that the power of this nation rests with the people and, unfortunately, the idea of "God" has been so engrained into the peoples' minds that they can barely CONCIEVE our Atheistic arguments as truth!

But no longer. The American people, my generation in particular, have all they need to wake up to the truth, the Atheistic truth. Already, Atheism in the USA is rising. Why? Because, as we all know, the arguments for it are far more convincing than those against. However, because we lack centralization, we have little voice in our currently right-winging government.

We cannot suffer this injustice! My people, I call you to arms! Throughout American history, Americans have fought against tyranny and opression. Well, my friends, it is time for us to follow the path our forefathers laid for us. We must fight theism, not with guns or missles, but with the people themselves. My friends, we cannot simply lay back and watch the world go by, hoping that things will get better! We must lay the crushing blow on the religious majority! We must destroy the Cold War anti-Atheist way of thinking! We are not Communists, we are Americans! We will take back our nation! We will make our way of life known to all so that they too can see the light as we have.

Fellow freethinkers, I call on you in the darkest of times. I ask of you...no, I beg-heed my words. Rise up against religious tyranny and make our nation safe for people of all Creeds! We must unite!

Ok I'm with you and I think our fight song should be Red Rider's song "Lunatic Fringe"

Lunatic Fringe
I know you're out there
You're in hiding
And you hold your meetings
We can hear you coming
We know what you're after
We're wise to you this time
We won't let you kill the laughter

Lunatic Fringe
In the twilight's last gleaming
This is open season
But you won't get too far
We know you've got to blame someone Like us evil satan worshipping atheists
For your own confusion and for electing GWB
But we're on guard this time
Against your final solution

We can hear you coming
(We can hear you coming)
No you're not going to win this time
We can hear the footsteps
(We can hear the footsteps)
Way out along the walkway
Lunatic Fringe
We know you're out there
But in these new dark ages brought about by xian stupidity
There will still be light and it ain't the light of christ

An eye for an eye
Well, before you go under
Can you feel the resistance
Can you feel the....thunder

Nothing, as long as you realize it's another religion, with the dogma/unsupported belief that humans will continue to work in a motivated fashion when given no motivation...

I agree with you in part, the times are dark for infidels, but they're getting better. Did you attend the GAMOW? And doesn't the First Amendment technically make things safe for all creeds? OK, so I'm playing a bit of Devil's Advocate here, but what do you really suggest we do? Do you want to pay for my memberships in FFRF, AU, and American Atheists? (and other such groups, even the ACLU)

Take back our nation? When did we really have it?

Again, sorry to be a sourpuss, but I have to think that either you're joking with this post or you're serious, but you need to make some clarifications. Please think out your response to this. I do support your basic call, but need to know what you propose to do. Thanks.

Only as long as we have a Supreme Court that is willing to uphold it. Several of Bush's recent nominations to the courts of appeals are in favor of chipping away at the wall of separation, and some are obviously being groomed for the Supreme Court.

Toto, that's why I said, "technically." I understand it's open to interpretation (and distortion) by the courts. I too, fear W's tinkering our basic rights more than he has already.

First off, yes, I am serious in this post.

Shake, I respect your opinion (because, let's face it, that's what we have to do without being hipocrits), but I disagree. I am afraid I was misheard. We are already in dark times because of our minority status, plus the fact that many people would love to see us erradicated; but we will enter an even bleaker period should we not rise up against The Shrub's tyranny (sorry, republicans, he's too damn radical).

With conservatives running our nation, we face the inevitable future of restrictions against us and other minority religions. Even though Xians are fragmented and divided, their leaders share a common hatred of us (with the possible exception of Baptists and Unitarians). We must fight the majority!

I am but a student, with little experience in the world, but I (being a sort of history buff) know that if we do nothing, Atheism could quite possibly become a thing of the past.
