There's definetly a lot of nasty stuff going on in Israel these days....and it's become the main focus of the Abrahamic religions. Christian fundamentalists are rallying support around Israel--just watch, if you can stand it--the various Christian channels which go on and on about the situation in Israel.
However, what if this--the center of three faiths--is destroyed(again)? Would it cause people to depart from the faith? Or will replacement theology and anti-semitism take over once again?

Israel should never be a nation and should have never become a nation in the first place. The homecoming of Jews is into the mind of God and is not a physical place on earth. The aboriginal heritage of Judaism is the mind of God that runs between the two rivers of life to end in the Euphrates -- which is the mind of God (eu=good and phrenos=mind).

Judaisn is never the centre of Catholicism because in Luke we find our heritage right from Joseph to Adam to God.

How come God led them into the country in the first place, then? Why did he keep promising him land and what-not? The Old Testament is certainly very patriotic...

You misunderstand the dear fundies. They WANT Isreal destroyed because that would fulfill their biblical interpretation that once it is destroyed in the apocalyptic battle,( talked about in Revelations, which others around here have actually read), then their favorite guy-JEBUS- will return and bring all of them to heaven.

The fundies will step over the bodies of the Jews in Isreal to rise up with their JEEBUS to heaven. The fundies love all the war in the Middle East. It fulfills "da book" as the late Bob Marley sang. Dangerous bunch, those fundies.

Sullster you are correct but I would like to add that fundies think that it is their duty to brown-nose Jews into heaven. They would do this for two reason, first, the Jews are Gods favorite people and a holy nation, and second, when doing this they will find favor with God and are next in line when Jesus comes again (surely he would notice them, so they think).

Yes it is true that the second coming of Christ will not be until the home-coming of the Jews from the North. This home-coming is not into the land of Israel but into the mind of God, as I suggested earlier.

Because they read this wrong they first caused Israel to be a nation and now they think it must become a 'holy nation' and for this to happen them damn Catholics have to vacate it before it can even look like a holy nation.

Before the fall of the USSR a large Exodus was planned that would take the Jews out along the West side, down through Germany and so towards Israel. This was all done in preparation ofr the second coming. It was organized by fundamentalist Christians and Jews alike with millions spend on it already (see "Exodus II" by Steve Ligtle, who himself was a Jew). As an aside, to their surprise when the USSR collapsed the Jews actually flocked into Russia. This was done to gather and group and was only temporalily, so they now think.

So I do not think that they want Israel destroyed but they want it to be a 'holy nation' that is ready for the return of Jesus and they will do whatever it takes to make it worthy of the second coming of Jesus. For the Jews it is like of a love/hate thing. They like the support but not he image it leaves behind.

Only to fundies is the bible slanted in their favor and this backfires on them more often then not.

I would rather sympathise with the Jews because of this and is probably what caused the great holocaust.

The stage is now being set for another war and that will not be the last one because Christ is never going to come the way they think he is.
