Others rolled their eyes and shook their heads. "You can put me up in a five-star hotel, and I'm not going to be here for two years," said Sgt. Jennifer Appelbaum, 26, a legal secretary from Philadelphia.

I can hardly blame them either. Still, there is a great onus on the US to fulfill their role as an occupying force, and stories like these demonstrate just how far away the US are from restoring any semblence of order or satisfactory living conditions to many areas of Iraq.

What's the solution?
