Angry Philosophical Lawyers?

I have noticed a very annoying trend on this board: the tendency to request more explanation than is warranted.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I think about philosophical issues to try and make sense of the world, not to play lawyer. I fucking hate lawyers.

Dennis Miller says that if we killed all the lawyers, we would walk, due to inadequate representation.

And why do you hate lawyers? Do you believe that this is a Freudian hate or was your father a lawyer? While you may reserve your right not to reply, how are we to judge whether your hate is justified without hearing all the facts and relevant details of how such a hate came to be? You may believe that lawyers are just sophists arguing based on the power of their advocacy rather than on the merits, but is that not the art of philosophy?

Cheers, John

Yes – don’t question too much and request too much explanations. You’ll never learn that way. Fucking skeptics. Damn them all.

El_Hober:

Yes, it's annoying that so many broader issues can be derailed into debates about the semantics of specific terms and nitpicking about specific issues pertinent to the "broader" issues, but that's the bane of philosophy my friend. If you want to step closer to the absolute then this is the bridge you must cross.

Otherwise, if you merely wish to be told what is and what is not, then Zarathustra and his infinite wisdom is only a short trip to the library away.
