Default Sending Jews "home"

The "home" is Israel, of course.

I just finished watching a 30-minute infomercial--"On Wings of Eagles". The upshot: spend $350 and get a Jew (usually from the former USSR) to Israel. They go through the usual stuff: the pogroms, the Holocaust, the oppression in Russia. And there's many testimonials from paragons such as Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, Charles Colson, and other Xtian spokespersons, as well as ordinary citizens who talk about "fulfilling prophecy" and talk about how "time may be running out" (even though the USSR went belly-up over a decade ago).

Why this frenzy to get Jews home, and without their paying for it? One reason only: because xtians feel that by blessing them, they bless the USA and themselves. In the 1920s, there was a popular movement by Marcus Garvey to get American blacks back to Africa. Garvey was a hustler, so it went nowhere, but there was also the fact that no one in the US gave a damn about (insert the n-word). After all, God had cursed them to be slaves.

So this is what I wanna know, you xtians who lurk here: why is this privately-funded immigration okay for the Jews, but not for any other ethnic group? And do you think "Wings of Eagles" is shown anywhere besides the USA? Europeans, by the look of it, have been much harsher to the Jews than we have--are they being hit up for cash?

It was my understanding that, according to the fundies, the Jews need to return to their home land in order for Jesus to return. Why? I have no idea. Probably some obscure line in the NT.

As one of those awful "lurking Christians"------Here is my 2 cents.--

Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell are a couple of loony tunes.

And you can find or "interpret" almost any damned thing you want to in the Bible.

One of my co-workers is a fundy and when I asked him about this he said that in order for "our great and glorious Jesus Christ bless him bless him" (his exact words) to return, the Jews must return to Isreal so that they can all be KILLED or CONVERTED to Christianity (his emphisis) because "The Bible says it must be so! Praise God!" He couldn't give me chapter and verse.

When I told him I thought that was dispicable, he just smiled that anoying I'm-better-than-you-are-and-you're-going-to-hell-anyway-ha-ha, smile.

Do they all have to return to Israel? If so, the Christians will be waiting a long time for Jesus because I'm one Jew who has no interest in moving to Israel.

Assuming they even wanted to go; is there even room for the 15 million or so Jews, scattered around the world, to live in israel?

The whole thing is so absurd.

I agree with you 100%, RBAC. Now get off your high horse--I said nothing about "awful" lurking Christians. In fact, you're one of the better ones here, and I appreciate your input.

Still, even though Pat and Jerry are uncertified loonies, they still have influence. I thought it interesting that they emphasized Russian Jews, not the poor African ones or the ones living in the wilderness of upstate New York. I think it's scriptural blackmail--that old "I will bless them that bless thee, and curse them that curse thee" business. Given what became of Nazi Germany, one is inclined to believe they're on to something.

But I'm not buying. And I don't see why Xtians should be so eager to support this "ingathering" if said people don't want to go. Some elderly Jew in Litovsk would love it, but why would some middle-aged fellow in, say, Baltimore? That's what I don't understand.

I know exactly what you mean. Some people actually give the NT credit and interpret Jesus as a god who should be worshipped, instead of the myth that he actually is. I guess it was those clearly inspired things he did, like sending demons into pigs and cursing out of season fig trees that proved he was god and not just another failed messiah that they made up a bunch of silly stories about 40 years after his death.

Darn. And I was looking forward to watching all the armies of the world battling against Jesus on CNN. Sounds more interesting than the war in Iraq.

LOL, this image I get is a 900 foot tall Jebus, with laser beams coming out of his eyes, swatting airplanes out of the sky as people run in terror. Imagine this in black and white and taking place in Tokyo.

Yes . . . but Rev. Oral Roberts SAW YOUR 900 ft JESUS!!!!! [!--Ed.]

He needed money. . . .

Presumably he will go to Tokyo for some shoping?

There is a wonderful book, Apocalypse Pretty Soon: Travels in End-Time America, Alex Heard, Doubleday, 1999, which goes into some of this stuff. Great book.
