Default Space Shuttle Columbia (Bush's Religious Statement)

http://www.cnn.com/2003/US/02/01/shu...ush.statement/

FACT: Not everyone on board was Christian
MY PROBLEM: Why in the fu*k is he quoting from HIS scripture, that stupid, inconsiderate, a$$?!?!

"In the words of the prophet Isaiah, "Lift your eyes and look to the heavens. Who created all these? He who brings out the starry hosts one by one and calls them each by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing."

The same creator who names the stars also knows the names of the seven souls we mourn today. The crew of the shuttle Columbia did not return safely to Earth, yet we can pray that all are safely home.

May God bless the grieving families, and may God continue to bless America." - GW Bush

Maybe there's a different heaven where the non-Christians go.

Was the woman from India a christian?

Probably not. The guy from Isreal probably wasn't a Christian either. That is what pisses me off about Bush-it so much!! He doesn't THINK, or CONSIDER the fact that not everyone is Christian!! And to believe he wants to give OUR TAX DOLLARS to support "faith based" groups. Which faith based groups is he going to support?? Is he going to help the Secular Humanist groups also??

The Israeli definitely was NOT a christian. There was a news story last Saturday that he got so busy doing the mission assignments that he did not have time to read the Torah or whatever it was he was supposed to do.

(Maybe this was god's vengence for that oversight?)

Well at least give him credit for not mentioning Jesus (or how those on the shuttle who didn't accept Jesus at the last minute are now roasting in hell). It wasn't a real Christian message, just a mushy sort-of-religious message about how they're "home." It's hard to say anything meaningful at a time like this.

But it seems a bit puzzling. It looks like somebody just searched for a mention of "stars" and picked that verse.

Well, to be fair the Jew would probably not mind a Isaiah quote.

But I agree, when acting as the head of state of a country whose constitution separates state and religion he should not bring up his personal religious beliefs as often and inappropriately as he does it.
Since there were scientists aboard the likelyhood is very high that some of the crew were atheists, in which case this was a worthy continuation of the shrub's impressive record of idiocy and callousness.

A Jew cannot go to the Heaven that GWB envisions.

(Fr Andrew): Isaiah is not Christian scripture. I think that whoever wrote what Dubya read off the teleprompter today was looking for something generic and comforting and was, to a large extent, successful.
The fact that it was necessary to inject religion into the picture at all is what disturbs me.
Why haven't we grown beyond that?

Worse: his tax-dollar paid speechwriters don't stop to think or consider it.

On the other hand, Isaiah is an OT prophesy book, so the Israeli and American Jewish communities probably aren't terribly offended.

Still no word on the religious identification of the Indian-born woman? Not that it matters, but I do know plenty of Indian Americans who are Christian to some extent or another...
