IMO

since our ancestors first crawled out of the primordial ooze we have looked for something to blame or something to explain. Why are there rainbows? Well, you see dog made it rain and then to show his creations that he would never again destroy the world with water he made a rainbow as a sign. Bullshit

Humanity has always had to have a reason because we cannot accept "I do not know" as an answer. It is easier to create some excuse than to just let the unknown exist.

I have heard that if all religon could be erased from earth (what a great idea) and every memory of any religion could be also erased that within just a few generatioons, mankind would recreate something to worship. Is humanity that weak? Probably.
