While there were horrible atrocities in the Middle Ages, they weren't caused by Christian teachings, IMHO. They were caused by people who perverted and twisted the teachings to their own ends.

Arrg! How did this thread too degenerate into a whine that Christianity as a belief system is responsible for the Dark Ages of Europe?? Yes the church was there and involved and deserves some of the blame but no serious scholar of Medieval Europe is going to claim Christian doctrine was the entire cause!

I suspect that the Dark Ages of Europe always comes up because it is the only example anyone can think of...nothing of the centuries of Ethnic clensing the islands of the Pacific, nothing of the ancient Tibitans terrorizing Asia before their conversion to a peace loving faith, nothing about the bloodbaths in the Americas...you get the point. Pardon the rant, my patience had simply run out.
