Default The Bible

I have a question for those who live in countries other than the U.S. or for U.S. citizens who have traveled widely. Although I have traveled a good bit myself it has been mostly within the U.S.

As most of you probably know, it is all but impossible to find a hotel or motel room in this country that does not contain a Bible. It is not unusual to find it lying open on the pillow when you check in. Does this occur in countries other than the U.S.?

You usually find Bibles in hotel rooms in western Europe (where I've travelled), left by the Gideons. I assume you also find them in hotels in Britain (never stayed in one), but I know you find them in hospital bedside cabinets in the UK, also courtesy of the Gideons. I also found one in my chest of drawers in hall when I arrived at university.
I have never seen one laid out on a bed open tho'; I tend to come across them when putting things in cupboards.

I have found one in Japan They also had some buddhist texts, too. Didn't observe any in Europe or UK or Australia, so I suppose it is not that common there. And no bible in Singapore, India, or mainland China

I usually leave a bookmark at the nastier genocidal parts and highlight the relevant verses with red marker.

Salut the Admiral... I have found ,usualy in the drawer in a night table, a Gideons Bible in France.
In Italy, hotels which catter to Americans, frequently have a Bible laying on the night table or in the drawer. However I have not seen any in remote hotels which have no touristic appeal.

You're welcome, Admiral.
I was wondering the same as Soul Invictus. Do you care to share your motives with us?
