Default Another online poll: should 10c's be in courthouse

http://www.gulf1.com/Polls/index.htm

Do you feel that displaying the 10 Commandments in a court house is wrong?

It seems a strange way to word the question.

Yep, it is weird.

I KNOW it's wrong.

I'm Canadian and I voted again.

No, it's not wierd, they want to use this to paint anyone opposed to the posting of the 10C's as 'evil atheist bastards', which I am , but I don't presume to speak for all of us.

Thanks Tony!

38% said yes as of my taking the poll. Only just under 300 total votes though. Two more yes's will make it an even 39%!

They must log your vote by IP or something ... I'll have to vote again from home.

When giving the 'oath' in Court you are given the choice of 'swearing on the bible' or affirming.

If the 10 Commandments were showing on a courtroom wall, what choice does that give me other than to see them?

Therefore, the 10 commandments should NOT be shown in a court of law as they would be seen as demeaning to non believers, and a form of brainwashing to less rational people.

I agree that that's a strange way to word the question. It's not that I feel it's wrong, it's that in my opinion it's unconstitutional.

After reading some of the stupid posts there, I had to leave my thoughts...hopefully it was tactful enough:

Quote:
I read in many posts that the 10 Commandments are basis for our laws, and that much of the legal system's time is in upholding these commandment laws. Do any of these posters know the 10 Commandments, and how such Commandment laws would fly directly in the face of the Constitutional Right of Freedom of Religion? Let's just take the first Commandment...how is this not biased towards one particular religion?

One would argue on the more secular Commandments to not kill, or not steal. The 10 Commandments are not unique in history to have such rules, and is by all means not the oldest.

There are many other historical documents that are more applicable to our legal system, if we must have such things displayed in our courtroom. I would hope that there is one somewhere displaying our Constitutional Rights.

Good job! I read yours as well as some of the stupid posts which you refer to. I left my own message, a bit choppy, but it should get the point across, I hope. I included this link in my post there so that maybe some people will actually learn something. It might even bring some folks here!

Since I got a bit into the C-SS issue a bit, I also gave them the link for AU. Hopefully some people will check that out, too!

Above, I said that I attempted to add my own comments to their board like Rhaedas did. They asked for an email addy, so not wanting my regular one to get more swamped than it already is, I gave them my Yahoo! addy. Today, I get a message in my Yahoo! account stating that they won't publish comments from people using "junk" accounts like those from Yahoo! or Hotmail, unless they've heard from that person before, and know that it's valid. So, I'm thinking, fine, I understand why they're doing, but it's still annoying. I replied back giving them my home email addy, hopefully now it'll get posted.

I'll let y'all know if anything comes of it.
