Default Question about chemicals

I have some basic questions that we didn't cover in biology. I was at work and we were laying pipe, and I wasn't that tired, I went to lunch and as soon as I got done eating I felt like I couldn't keep awake. I know the body releases chemicals after eating, but what chemicals are they? Is it dopamine? Is it affected by how much you eat? I know it also has to do with circadian rhythm (or something to that effect). Also, after you have sex (or masturbate), you feel incredibly tired, what chemical causes this? It would be a great sleeping pill

I know one thing. If I eat a big lunch of carbs, like potatoes, I have an energy crisis afterwards, whereas if I avoid them, I do much better. Maybe what you eat for lunch is part of the problem?

I was under the impression that post-meal fatigue was caused by blood moving to your stomach for digestion, due to starches?

Here's an interesting piece from Snopes:

Tired Turkey Syndrome

Its the insulin response from eating either high glycemic carbs or other sugary junk food.

Your blood sugar raises to rapidly, and in response you release insulin to shuttle nutrients into your cells. If youve eaten rapidly digested foods then there is no resupply of glucose to the blood and you become slightly hypoglycemic, and thus tired.

you do release a little seratonin when you eat carbs, and that probably doesnt help the situation.

For those not in the know, laying pipe, as used in the sentence above, is usually in reference to connnecting sections of above ground irrigation piping.

My guess is the tough morning of work contributed to the feeling. I know 4 to 6 hours of hard labor usually makes me feel sleepy after I get a chance to rest and cool down. I need a kick start to get moving again.

There was a good reason grandma served us almost black iced tea at lunch.

Laying pipe where I'm from is a euphamism for sex. I've only heard guys use it though.
