Look at it! Six hundred threescore! Six hundred SETS OF threescore! If God had meant 666, he'd've written "Six hundred AND threescore and six" or "Six hundred, threescore and six." There's no punctuation and no conjunction, which implies multiplication, not addition! He's GOD! God doesn't make typos! Beware 36,006! |

I can think of one Latin phrase that adds up to 666:
I + V + X + L + C + D = DCLXVI What's so important about those numerals? I don't know. |

Thanks for the responses everyone.
So, 666 is a kinda code that is meant to reveal the name of "the beast" here on earth; in this case Nero by adding up the numerical representation of the letters of his name. Does that correctly sum it up, or did I miss a point anywhere? Quote:
Thanks again! |

And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: You might also want to note that the "mark" of the beast as mentioned in 13:16 also points to Nero. Roman slaves were often branded with with the name of their owners and sometimes devoted Roman soldiers would brand themselves with the name of their general. Quote:
If you want a really good analysis on Revelation (the original Jewish one which was later confused into the current Christian one), I recommend This link. He details all the references to Roman/Jewish history as well as the regurgitation of elements from the book of Daniel. The same author does a critique of the "prophetic" book of Daniel which completely demystifies it and is excellent reading. The Historical reconstruction of Jesus he does is also very good but may take many days to get through. -Mike... |

I just saw a guy on tv the other day actually talking about it, rambling on about sign after sign that really could've fit to almost anywhere anytime. It's sad really, and sucks that they let it on tv Oh well, gotta have free speech.

I remember reading an article that drew a connection between the number of the beast and Mammon. They cited I Kings 10:14 as a source for the number 666. They fleshed it out a bit more than this, and I remember it seeming pretty reasonable, but I can't recall where I read this article.

666 was a certain amount of money that Solomon had. However some Bible verses translate the Revelation passage as 616, so there might not be a connection, although the whole "buying and selling" bit makes sense. You need money to buy and sell.
If Money however is "The Mark Of The Beast" then pretty much every single person is going to hell except those who use a barter system. Heck, even Jesus and the Apostles would therefore have "The Mark of the Beast" since the NT states that they did in fact use Money. And God probably assigned the Jewish to hell by stating uses of money in the Mosaic Law. Do'h! |
