Typhon,

You -- actually, many posters on this site -- but you, in particular, should benefit from Psalm 131 -- much in the same way I have.

"Lord, I have given up my pride(emphasis mine) and turned away from my arrogance(emphasis mine). I am not concerned with great matters or with subjects too difficult for me to understand. Instead, I am content and at peace. As a small child lies quietly in its mother's arms, so my heart is quiet within me."

By the way, Typhon, you do not have children, do you? The first moment you gaze into the eyes of your newborn son or daugther, and hold him or her in your arms, let ne know if you still think there is no such thing as "human goodness".

Gemma had this to say:

So, this, preaching from a holy book that holds no moral significant to me, is the best you can do?

I am indeed sorry for you, truly.

Preaching that I am prideful and arrogant, and using the Bible as a reference for this, shows only that you have reached your wits end, in any sort of rational discussion, or, that you are strangely trying to convert me to your faith.

Either one is entirely a waste of your time, as well as mine.

I've been inoculated against the nonsense of Christianity for many, many years now.

As for you, you duck, you evade, you are silent. Suggesting that I'd benefit from scriptures, which by the way, I've read many times before myself, that I and many other rational folks have long since discarded as superstitious and empty rhetoric composed by a primitive people over 2,000 years ago, seems particularly obtuse.

Sigh. This is a place for rational discussion. If you want to preach your religion, go here:

Oh pu-lease. That one had me crying tears of laughter, really. I've held my brother's child in my arms, and was in fact there for the entire birth. I've gained and lost loved ones, and am wonderful with children and adore them, AND, I'm an atheist.

And you know what? I still do not hold that there is any such thing as "human goodness." And you can bet your savings that I would not teach such lies as that to my own offspring.

Well, I'm still waiting for the answers to my previous several posts. But I can see you have retreated completely. Please do not bother to preach to me, I hold the Bible to be nothing but a collection of ridiculous fables. They have less weight against my arguments than a random string of keystrokes. The fact that they have a large following, does nothing to show that they are valid here.

"Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups." – unknown

Now once more, I'd like to hear your comments about religion being "not entirely or even primarily subjective." Also, please address my remarks about your example of driving to Ohio and proving the existence of a god or gods.

In addition, I'd like to hear your comments, regarding the three articles I linked to my last post.

Oh, and BTW, thank you for finally dropping that obnoxious "in god's love" sig.

.T.

Gemma Therese, and others, I am closing this thread. I should have done it back on page 7, I think- but I try to err on the side of leniency for discussions like this, which are after all the heart and soul of this forum. But as is all too usual, the answers given by theists to atheists here boil down to "I have faith and so should you. Do this or risk hellfire. Do this or you are NOT a good person."

Gemma, if you or any of your fellow believers ever come up with a reasonable argument which might convince us, or any bit of evidence which might disprove our assertion that there is no least bit of evidence for God's existence, please do tell us. Many of us are fascinated by the *idea* of religion (else why do we come here and talk?) but have too much intellectual self-respect to believe the tales told about religion, which are on the same level as Grimm's.
