Default Absolute Truth?

The statement:

"There are no absolute truths"

Is in itself an absolute truth!

True?

or

False?

False. And try these for even more fun:

Every rule has an exception.
We can know nothing with absolute certainty.
There is no reality.
I always lie.

Sounds like a philosophy topic, not a scientific one.

Off it goes...

The best way to interpret these kind of statements is with a modicum of irony. Some say that's the reason why Socrates never wrote anything. Irony doesn't translate well on paper.

"I am the wisest man in Athens because I know that I know nothing." - Socrates

Yes we can know something with ABSOLUTE certainty.

And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
1 John 5:13-15

As for ABSOLUTE TRUTH? Jesus is Absolute Truth:
Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.
John 14:5-7

Maybe you can. I'm a bit more skeptical about anything written in a book that's over two-thousand years old.

Default More Religious Nonsense

EasternGate
Yes we can know something with ABSOLUTE certainty.

What, and How?

Godel has shown that there cannot be any system of understanding that decides all truths!
That is to say, there cannot be any system of decision that confirms any truth in an absolute way.

EasternGate
As for ABSOLUTE TRUTH? Jesus is Absolute Truth:

Clearly, "Jesus is Absolute Truth" is syntatic gibberish!
"Jesus is Absolute Truth", cannot have sense or truth at all!

Truth, is a predicate of statements, and it is not a predicate of any physical or spiritual object ..if such there be.

It's quite similar to: EasternGate is greater than 3 ???

That the human authors of the 'good books', and your jesus, and your god, were not aware of the linguistic error of syntax, denies any meaning to 'godly omniscience'.

Your remarks have no logical content.

True. The statement is self-contradictory. Much like,
"There are no sentences that are nine words long."

Exclamation From the moderators...

/moderator hat ON

While it is possible that Biblical citations *might* occasionally be germane to a question under discussion in this forum, users should think carefully about whether or not they actually add value to the discussion. While the Bible certainly makes claims as to absolute truth, quoting it doesn't add to a discussion of whether or not absolute truth exists or can be known.

Thanks!
