OK. I have a question here concerning her status as a "litigant". Since this was a criminal law, the only parties with standing in the case are the state (or its officials) and the person accused of sodomy. So if she isn't a state official...

She is listed as amicus curiae (friend of the court). The ACLU was an amicus curiae on the other side of the issue.

It's not clear if she was there speaking for an organization, or how she got that status.

Thanks. An amicus curiae is not the same as being a litigant. It doesn't take much to become one. You ask the judge and the parties for permission to file a brief. All that's required is some sort of tangential interest in the outcome.

Mrs. Griffin's language, I have noticed, is not always very precise - "scholastic confusion concerning the Bill of Rights" - I bet those medieval scholars were confused.
