Post National Geographic Calendar

At work I was noticing someone's National Geographic's American Landscapes Calendar.

April's photo has a scene from Beartooth Lake in Wyoming and goes on to state
Quote:
The sandstone bands are a telling sign that the granite beneath may have been underwater millions of years ago. [emphasis mine]
This seemed odd to me, as it's quite obvious that this sandstone formation was once submerged, and for a very long time. Is this just political correctness, simply a way to inform people while not offending their religious convictions?

Maybe I'm just a bit paranoid, but it sure surprised me being on NG's calendar.
