Sorry to hijack the thread, but is such intellectual terrorism really rampant in USA?
If so, they better take a look at India. this is what had happened over the past twenty years --- glorification of Islam as the eligion of peace and equality and perfect treatment of women; granting them special priveleges because they are the minority. The result is rioting (Of course there are more muslims here) and the middle class supporting the riots. Ordinary people no longer believe anything the so called 'intellectuals' says.

Editing to add: the recent riots were sparked off by mulims burning down a train killing hindus. Unfortunately, our progressives have been carried away political correctness. Now they are declaring that it is obvious that hindu fanatics set fire to the train killing other hindus to start riots. Guess how popular it makes them with the ordianry hindus.
The hindu right hardly knows where to look for joy.

That's maybe a bit of an overstatement. There was a community college professor in Orange Co. CA who got into trouble with some hostile remarks in a classroom setting about Muslims. Some of his Muslim students charged him with discrimination. But I think he was eventually cleared, and his problem was not what he said, but the entire context.

Scholars are more likely worried about getting the Salmon Rushdie treatment from some middle eastern Ayatollah.
