It is a rough analog to Circe the sorceress turning some of a Odyssues' men into pigs and then driving them over a cliff.

It is interesting to learn that the parable existed Greek mythology but that only means that the parable is effective in making its point.

Demons are spiritual beings and would think that "pigs over a cliff" is also a metaphor.

I try to be succinct and it does not help much to elaborate because I always have to explain my explanations and so I end up talking backwards and forget the point I was trying to make. Does that help?

Good idea Martin; let's take Amos' words and run them through from English to French and back again, to see if we can improve.

It is a human condition to be in search of happiness and girls know this all to well, for it takes two to tango and one must be the leader.

becomes:

"It is a human state a to be a the search for happiness and the girls know this whole well, because it takes two with the tango and one must be the starter."

Does that help? Thought not.

Thanks for the English lessons but the question was why I flip from the singular "the innovator" to the plural of "our mind" in relation to the "forbidden fruit."

What Martin wanted to say is "speak for yourself" to which I object because we are all human and as humans are we divided in our own mind to make it possible to dance to the song of our heart. This song is a pre-existing condition to which we are responders and must take the lead if it is going to be "our tango" ("girls" in this case, is the universal salemandrine fire that burns within).

If I am wrong it is in mixing the physical with the metaphysical and that is where confusion begins. Opposite this I can say that for the freethinker also the rigor of language must be violated.

Oh, I've got it! the secret message is: listen to more Depeche Mode while reading Foucalt!!

My submission for most bizarre Bible story: during the crucifiction scene in Matthew, tombs break open and bodies come out and enter Jerusalem.

Violated, my friend, is methinks far too mild a word for what you are doing to the language.

I've always thought the Tale of the Golden Hemorrhoids was particularly enlightening.

The Philistines capture the Ark of God (with The Big Guy trapped inside, apparently)so God punishes the Philistines by killing them or giving them hemorrhoids. To get Him to lay off, they have to make images (violating the 10 Commandments) of their "emerods" and give them and the ark back to the Israelites.

Seems like He could have just levitated Himself back home, but where's the fun in that?

Moral of the Story: Piss God off, He will kick your ass and rub your nose in it.

From 1 Samuel 6 (condensed)

Then said they, What shall be the trespass offering which we shall return to him? They answered, Five golden emerods, and five golden mice, according to the number of the lords of the Philistines: for one plague was on you all, and on your lords.
(Whole Chapter: 1 Samuel 6 In context: 1 Samuel 6:3-5)

1 Samuel 6:5
Wherefore ye shall make images of your emerods, and images of your mice that mar the land; and ye shall give glory unto the God of Israel: peradventure he will lighten his hand from off you, and from off your gods, and from off your land.

I don't remember which verse, but it was the story where that guy (Peter?) gets bit by a spider and develops all these superpowers.

I'd consider being a Christian if that one were true. Too cool!

Particularly since in Genesis 1 plants are created before human beings and in Genesis 2 it's the other way around. If I ever see a cogent explanation of that I might be interested in reading further in the Christian Bible.
