Yeah, they could. That isn't what this particular M.D. is saying though in this case.

Also, it has been my experience from working with and teaching a lot of MDs-to-be that they are not necessarily the sharpest tools in the shed.
No doubt this is true, but one would think an M.D. at Harvard would be one of the more sharper ones.

Ah, I've got it beat. The two people who discovered the structure of DNA (and prob know more about DNA than anyone else on the planet ) = watson and crick. And they are ATHEISTS!

As far as doctors being pro or anti evolution- you really don't learn it in med school. I bet many doctors have never even taken a class on evolution. I only took it because MSU is big on wildlife biology.

I think it's easy for them to be intelligent design advocates though. Couple their arrogance with a lack of genetic understanding, add that to their knowledge that the human body is so complex. . .sure they may be ID'ers on average. But YECS? Doubtful. I mean, they all had to pass the MCAT!

I also think that doctors who do research - especially epidemiogy - are more likely to believe in macroevolution. I'll have to search for some stats on this topic.

From the alumni pages at Harvard:
http://whitepages.med.harvard.edu/cgi-bin/WebPhalum

Name: Dr. Isaac Vaughn Manly

Specialty: Surgery, Certified

Year of Graduation: 1946

Um, 1946? Yeah, he probably didn't learn much about evolution in 1946 - when was DNA discovered again?

That link is broken, scigirl. I would be interested in looking at it. I found his quote on a recent article on ankerberg or something, so he is obviously talking about his recent research or whatever you want to call it.

yeah I noticed.. .too lazy to fix it.

It's just the harvard medical school alumni directory info. What you see in my post is all you would see at the link. Like a white pages entry- that's all there is.

But do a google search on his name and you will find stuff.

Thanks. I found it by putting the base url and searching and discovered basically nothing as you said.

Obviously this is wrong. Anyone ever hear of this Isaac Manly? Is the quote out of context or is the guy just ignorant?

I think it may be that he's just a quack.

Assumeing it's the same person.

Apart from all the speculation if this guy knows anything about evolution, it is the same guy. He is on the board for some Tri Cities for Science in Creation organization or something like that.

Bingo ex-robot: Dr. Manly is a gen-yu-wine creationist. From the TASC site quoted above:
Quote:
Dr. Isaac Manly’s contribution of several hundred copies of the book, Refuting Evolution, has allowed distribution of this educational piece to many desiring knowledge.
Whatever the gentleman's medical training and capability, he is definitely in the I Hate Evilution camp.

I notice that there is some discussion about how/when AIG was formed.

Let us be straight about this: AIG was *created* in six days by God. This Australio-centric theory which proposes that AIG somehow formed from a rock in Australia before evolving into its present form is no more than a "theory".

Show me a parrot giving birth to a donkey and I'll believe you all!!
