Post Which is the most fundy state?

I was just wondering, in your opinion, which US state has the most fundies in it?

Percentage wise or sheer numbers?

Sheer numbers, probably California.

Percentage wise, probably Utah.

Maybe I should explain more...
I've decided to create a parody, I've chosen a name for my pastor (Lucilius Witz - I'm hoping that may give a bit of a clue that its a joke), now I need to find somewhere to have him live. So I want to put him in the most fundy state I can find - at the moment I've said Tenessee, but as I'm not American, I don't really know which state could be the worst
Thanks for your help,

C,mon, SLD, don't you want to claim the distinction for our home state, who voted to elect Judge Moore as C J?

The most fundy state?

It is either denial or delusion.

It depends. If you consider most Mormons fundies, then Utah wins percentage hands down. They have all those screwy blue laws, too.

For xian fundies, the Deep South is pretty safe. Alabama and Mississippi are as deep as you can get. But Missouri (home of Ashcroft), Shrubya's Texas, and Tennessee are pretty bad as well. And don't forget Kansas, home of Fred Phelps and state-mandated creationism.

Thank you very much, we voted in enough sensible people to the KS Board of Education to undo that anti-evolution mess that Abrams and company left behind.

Don't forget that Ashcrap lost to a dead man for the MO US Senate seat as well.

While my only experience with rural parts of my home states (mostly MO but I consider KS my "real" home) is just driving through them, I will say they seem pretty conservative. But I'd say that 'Bammer or Mississippi, from what I've read, are worse. So much worse, in fact, that I have made a promise to myself never to set foot in either state as long as I can help it (I've already been to Texas, or it would be on The List (c) as well).

Nahhh. I've spent time in Utah as well. I would venture to guess that there are almost no freethinkers outside of Park City in Utah. Alabama actually has a pretty strong thriving community of progressive freethinkers. Their legislature is so dominated by Fundies that they refused to relax their liquor laws even for the Olympics. According to one statistic I saw, 70% of Utahans are LDS. Alabama doesn't even come close to these numbers.

Ohh, and BTW, Mormons are christians. Albeit different from others, but Christians nonetheless. Of course, I am not sure what kind of story you are trying to write, perhaps Mormon views won't fit. In that case, Mississippi is probably the most fundamentalist - although South Carolina can lean pretty strongly that way too. Alabama is probably in the top five or ten as well.

If you were going to stick with the south, Mississippi is probably the most accurate. However, if you like the idea of Tennessee, the east Tennessee (and Kentucky for that matter) counties in the Appalacian mountains are about as backwards a place as you'll find in the USA.

Think of it as a branch office for West Virginia.
