Most of us have probably heard the thermodynamics argument against evolution. It usually consists of extending the second law of thermodynamics to include open systems.

Whenever I try to explain how the second law of thermodynamics works and how the earth is an open system, it never gets through to them. So, to illustrate my point, I have decided to compile a list of how the same argument can be used against everyday, commonly observed occurrences. I will keep it on my site for future use.

I�ll start by mentioning something that grows more complex over time, and then an explanation of why it could never happen that includes the phrase �evil secular scientists�, �the bible says�, �atheist cover-up�, or something similar. Then, someone else will add another item to the list and on and on.

Here we go!

Tree growth � Trees could not go from being a small seed to a large, complex tree in only years like the evil secular scientist say. The laws of thermodynamics state that entropy may not increase! This �tree growth� is nothing more then an atheist cover-up of the truth of the gospels!

If I'm not mistaken, creationists have coined their own "generalized 2nd law of thermodynamics", and they're using that. This is very common feautre of creationist "science"... when the mainstream disagrees with them, they make up a word that sounds all scientificy ("polystrate fossils", "hydrological sorting", whatever) and then hammer it over the heads of believers until no brain cell is left unmashed. Disgusting.
