You mean to say that atheist don't act this way? I don't believe all do, but the majority at these boards do.
An the atheist forum and the professors classroom are comperable how?

Tolerant? Maybe because you can't do anything about it... but if you had the power to erradicate religion, you wouldn't think it twice.
Someone clarify for me: Is this poisoning the well, a strawman, or both?

Quote:
Stick to the story. The question was if God created everything, then He created evil too. Not whether or not God existed.
God is omnipresent, in most myths, for starters. We'll assume that myth isn't the myth in use.

God is also omnipotent, or "all mighty", in the christian myth. So, god still creates evil by not extending himself to where it exists to remove it.

Quote:
There are different levels of description. We use symbolic language in reference to God. In visions, God is described as having some form likened to that of man--as described in Daniel. There is the description where God is everywhere, except in the presence of evil or vice versa. And then there is also the overall belief that nothing, not good nor evil, exists outside of God.
Always good to set up secondary (and even tertiary, I see) goal-posts in advance.

Quote:
And what the person was trying to say by 'absence of God' is the lack of obedience to God.
Then his whole argument is an even more obvious non-sequitur. Cold is a place where heat is not, and light is a place where darkness is not. Neither of these two things have anything to do with heat or light being "obeyed".

Time to switch goal-posts.

You sure could have said. But just because you can say anything, it doesn't mean it would be a valid comeback.
Wow, that's deep.

I'd of buried this kid.

Just so you don't get the idea that I believe this story, know that I don't.
*sigh*

Board rules demand I don't take the golden potshot you just presented. Oh well.

You could also recognize it as an argumentum ad veritatem obfuscandam--the raising of obfuscatory arguments to misdirect.

Sometimes fallacies "blend" into one another. A Poisoning of the Well often involves a good argumentum ad hominem, for example.

We should, however, rejoice in the opportunity to learn how fallacies are used.

Exactly what I thought The strong nuclear force being somewhat stronger than elctromagnetism.

If it were otherwise you could generate enough power to run a city by rubbing a baloon

Still, those comics aren't scary because they're true, they're scary because some people might think they are.
