Ugggggggghhhh - why do I bother?

As quote from the Little Tulip -
If you were Abraham's children ye would do what Abraham did.... You are of your father the devil. It was intolerable to them to hear that they were not Abraham's but the devil's children, nor can they bear to hear this today. The Children of Abraham"

We believe this today! and you are right. this is the most compelling evidence of that. In fact, no Jew would say that we worship the same God. They vohemetly deny the Son and the Spirit. You do not worship our God unless you worship the Trinity as a whole. I am going to look later and dig up a nice article written from some Rabbi someplace where he says, "you cannot be a Christian and a Jew." Jews worship Satan! So do Muslims! They are not children of God. read for yourselves.

31To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."
33They answered him, "We are Abraham's descendants[2] and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?"
34Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. 35Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. 36So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. 37I know you are Abraham's descendants. Yet you are ready to kill me, because you have no room for my word. 38I am telling you what I have seen in the Father's presence, and you do what you have heard from your father.[3] "
39"Abraham is our father," they answered.
"If you were Abraham's children," said Jesus, "then you would[4] 40 do the things Abraham did. As it is, you are determined to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham did not do such things. 41You are doing the things your own father does."
"We are not illegitimate children," they protested. "The only Father we have is God himself."

The Children of the Devil

42Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and now am here. I have not come on my own; but he sent me. 43Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. 44You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. 45Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me! 46Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don't you believe me? 47He who belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God."

In fact, I would say that this applies to all of you athiests. You do not hear the word of God because you are not children of God but children of Satan.

To God the glory!

Well hey, that's pretty convenient for us Brighid. We are disbelievers because we are not children of God, and we can't help but disbelieve because we are not children of God

It's a refreshing change from that "you don't believe because you simply don't want to" drivel, isn't it? Well, at least as refreshing as fundie drivel can possibly be.

The really disappointing part for me is that despite their having the intellectual prowess of the average gherkin, fundies still manage to reproduce, a lot.

All anyone needs is a brain stem and some reproductive organs.

And candles, and champagne.

Oh, and a complete ignorance of birth control methods, such as might be "gained" through Baptist abstinence education classes.

That tulip girl's a real winner, isn't she? This will be a good time to confirm my hypothesis that the other Christians on the BB will avoid making any public comment on tulip's rants, lest it be seen as some sort of defence of atheism, even though many of them will in fact disagree with her.

Oh well, she is a Lutheran after all and therefore a heretic; maybe one of them can bring themselves to point out the error of her ways. Not seeing a lot of it yet, though.

For a couple of years I belonged to a small Missouri Synod congregation with a kind and liberal pastor and a congregation of folks that really knew and enjoyed one another, and even treated the smallest child with adult respect. Doctrine was taught as a curiosity and with more than a grain of salt. The old were cared for. The young were encouraged and affirmed. They visited homes of new community members when invited. It was an extended family with a religious tradition, but if anyone there had a judgmental or arrogant bone in their body, couldn't prove it by me. I still visit when I'm in Seattle. They're kinda of deluded of course, but truly harmless.

The husband/wife minsterial team I knew at the Lutheran college I worked at were so far left there was no place left to go. They were "lifestyle ministers" following in daddy's footsteps and enjoying the role. They weren't too bright, their preaching wasn't likely to convert anyone, and they were therefor also pretty harmless.

I have to say I've never met a real live Wisconsin-Norwegian conservative Lutheran face-to-face, and none that evangelize at all or even preach very well, so I've always kind of ignored them.

So I don't know where Tulip gets it, but she is a sixteenth century throwback for sure.

Probably Dutch Reformed of some sort because "Tulpje" means "little tulip."

Dutch protestants are/were all strict but some are worse than others and some are real bad.

Up until roughly 25 years ago Holland was pretty well divided between Catholics in the South and protestants in the North and West and maybe that is when strong beliefs are encultered.
