Alan,

I was at the reading of the same book in London when it was published. Go along, he is a treat. Especially if he is answering questions.

Here are some questions he will probably appreciate:

"Where does altruism come from if everything is just selfish genes?"

"Isn't reductionism silly?"

"What about mass extinctions? How does your gradualist theory deal with those?"

"How can evolution increase information content? Answer in one sentence please"

"Which is right, Punctuated Equilibirum, or hypersuper-darwinian ultramega-reductionist extraslow-gradualism?"

"Why do you hate Stehpen J Gould?"

"You call religion a 'virus'.... Thats a bit childish, isn't it? Did you have some terrible experience with religion as a child that made you so angry at god?"

Disclaimer: Do NOT ask these questions of Richard Dawkins.

Here's another one:

"I've just founded a new society on complexification, design, and Super High IQ. Would you mind being an honorary member?"

Bah I will try get anyway, if I can't get at least I will have tried and also informed some more people about this (some from Edinburgh here aint there?)

You might ask him about the Emmanuel College creationism scare. That seems to have dropped out of the news, I don't know what the outcome was.

Well, so far the outcome was that Tony Blair has been asked about the teaching of creationism twice now in public and has sidestepped the issue both times. The surreal essay on Christian teaching of science, written for the Christian Institute by the Head of Science at Emmanuel College, has been taken down from the Christian Institute website "temporarily" but is still not back (although there are essays on Bible-based teaching of a bunch of other subjects). I haven't heard if the Ofsted inspectors went back to the school, but it's probably a fair bet that the classes are standard biology when there's an inspector sitting in.
