Jaylalitha has got a cadre of hardcore fans, who are willing to do anything for her. when a court verdict was passed against her two of them actually set themselves on fire to protest such injustice!

She is very fat today. There are lots of her to worship! Maybe that is the attraction.

This is exactly what I was talking about when I said that she is a terror. There have been quite a few of these self immolations in her name over the years. This seems to be something of a South Indian speciality. However there was an article a while ago in one of the local dailies about how some of these 'self' immolations are actually lay people who are set on fire by her supporters! Jayalalitha's corpulence is only matched by her ruthlessness.

It is amazing what people will be willing to overlook when they are fixed on an idea. She is refered to reverently as 'amma' which means mother. In fact her title is 'selvi' which is the equivalent of Miss. However it is common knowledge (even among her supporters) that she has been married and was also openly the mistress of a former chief minister - MGR.

Can you post any links to this story HW? It would be interesting to see the story unfolding in the Indian press.

I have not heard that her supporters set fire deliberately. But I have read that at least five of the people did it because she promised lots of money to their families, which she kept.

I will try to get a link.

"Now, now, followers... don't be too eager! There is plenty of Jaylalitha to go around!"
