Last night on PBS.
Is the origin of western religion from this fucked-up german?
Is this why they seem to hate so much?

Luther started the whole "saved by grace alone", I think.

He was, as well as a 6-day young-earth creationist, a geocentrist. When he heard about Copernicus' new heliocentric system, he railed against him ("that fool Copernicus") and brought forth a few scriptures to show that heliocentrism was Biblically untenable (notably Joshua 10:13). AiG cite Luther approvingly for support of young-earth creationism, but they go against him in supporting heliocentrism.

The Luther, the Catholic Church and even the times themselves presented in that show were so sanitized as to be unrecognizable. You think he was F'ed-up, you ain't seen nothing yet. Read A World Lit Only By Fire by William Manchester. It's in trade paperback.
You'll learn much more about the scandals, politics and the economics behind all of this
The PBS show didn't even tell what Martin was so frightened of when he struck a bargain with god in the scene where he is in the woods in a storm. He thought vampires and flatulent devils were after him. He was obsessed with farting perhaps because of all the German cooking he enjoyed.

And speaking of the PBS show, what was the problem with that woman's hair! You would think her family and friends would have warned her.

He is a huge blot and stain upon the history of the world.

Luther is the blot and stain that he accused the Jews of being.

A real thoroughgoing bastard.

And then there is the bastardiosity of John Calvin, who invited Michael Servetus, the first unitarian and first universalist in Europe, to Geneva for a debate about One God and Universal Salvation, whereupon he barbecued Servetus as a shining example of Christian love and correction.

[[[gag, barf, puke, drool, hurl, toss, urrrrpppp.......]]]

If Christians are so wonderful, why are their actions censored and rationalized away???
More to the point, why are Christians so goddam cruel that their incredibly savage and mean actions HAVE to be rationalized away???

Germany was tired of being having its wealth taken by the corrupt popes in Rome who just wanted to build enormous cathedrals and wage wars in Italy. Someone had to come along and get the break with Rome going and it was that constipated thick headed German peasant monk Luther.

The utterly corrupt popes of the Ranaissance period were the cause of the rise of Luther and his other nasty buddies such as Calvin and Zwingli. The Catholic church was using superstition and ignorance to swindle the illiterate masses and also well-off gullible types in order to build a religious empire in Rome.

If it wasn't Luther, it would have been some other lug. The catholic church was a run-away train led by virtual mafia families who were raping all of Europe.

After WW2, there were some theorists who claimed that Martin Luther was the original Nazi.

Lets face it. Catholicism and Protestantism are eternal and unreconcialable enemies. They don't go out and kill eachother anymore because of the rise of secular law. They wish eachother ill and consider eachother on the road to hell.

Yet, Luther and his ilk, have actually given us a lot of breathing space over the centuries. Can you imagine the horror of being under the dominance of the catholic empire? The battle between the christian sects has ultimately weakened their claims to any truth among the thinking classes.

Let them all go away and fight it out I say.
