Default Xian Death Camps

Quote:
359 CE
In Skythopolis, Syria, christians organise the first death camps for the torture and execution of arrested Gentiles from all around the Empire.
From science thread here.

Is this correct?

Are concentration camps a xian invention? Not a British Empire invention in South Africa?

This is disputed.

Scythopolis was of course a place of exile, but for Orthodox bishops also. “Eusebius of Sardinia, initially a lector in Rome and later bishop of Vercelli, was exiled by the emperor Constantius to Scythopolis and afterwards to Cappadocia, on account of his confessing his faith.” (Saint Hieronymus, De Viris Illustribus, 96)

However, while Christians were being persecuted by the Arian emperor Constantius, the Gentiles on the other hand encountered no problems there. Let us examine the events, in fact according to Ammianus Marcellinus himself, whom the neo-Paganists invoke (obviously in the hope that no-one will bother to see what he had actually written, but will swallow whole whatever they are served).

“Ammianus Marcellinus had written his work “Res Gestae” in Latin, with the Roman historian Tacitus as his model, and continued after him, covering events that took place between 96 and 378 A.D. However, the only section that was salvaged was the one covering the years 353 – 378.” (Historical Data, Eleftherotypia edition No.135, 23-5-2002, p.37)

Death camps Christianity's first death camp is established at Skythopolis, Syria; 1000s of gentiles are exterminated over 30 year period. False. Pearse notes: This can only be a reference to the Arian Bishop of Scythopolis, Patrophilus, who cruelly abused Christian bishops exiled to his see under Constantius. These included Eusebius of Vercelli. It was not a death-camp, nor did it last 30 years, nor were pagans the victims.
From the first link, it sounds like there was some unpleasntness at Skythopolis, but hardly a death camp in the modern sense.

Note that this claim is unreferenced by the author -- some Greek hater --, which gives the game away.

All the best,

I'm with Roger. Since it's unsourced and blatantly biased, I would not put much stock in it.

I would suppose that something unpleasant happened there, but whatever it was, was almost certainly not unprecedented in the history of conflicts between religious sects.

The Author doesn't read as a Greek hater - he is promoting the true gods - but as a xian hater.

I am alo interested in the reference to persecution of xians by arians. Unless I lost the plot somewhere, wasn't Constantine arian?

And might the "christians"have been such pains that they were locked away deliberately and justly?
