I was looking at the thread about people with knowledge of Greek. I wondered if anyone would be interested in doing a bit of collaborative translation online as a group? There's loads of Greek texts which have never been translated.

I was thinking of the fragments of Eusebius of Caesarea's Commentary on Romans, for which only 4-5 sentences now exist. (They were preserved in the marginal comments in Greek manuscipts of the bible). It's in the Thesaurus Linguae Graecae, so a unicode text can be made available.

Anyone interested?

I'll pitch in. I'll just have to find my 20 pound Oxford Greek-English Lexicon and I'll be ready to go.

I would be willing to help by providing sections of the TLG to individuals for the purpose of translation (unless somebody else has it: it's $300).

Also, for the past couple of weeks, I have been wondering whether a forum/subforum could be set up somewhere for a sort of "class" (group learning) in koine Greek. I am using the Mounce books right now, and it might be fun and instructional to go through it with others.

Finally, for those who want to make the Greek texts themselves available, I am mostly finished with a "GreekPad" program that will generate Unicode and HTML-escapes from BetaCode that is typed in. This would make it much easier to work with public doman texts for conversion into electronic form (including but not limited to texts published before 1923, as many in the Loeb series are).

I have a forum on my website dedicated to projects only. I started it with someone else for a programming project, but I'm sure it can be expanded. I'll pitch in too. There, everything can be decided about project details.

I have the TLG but am having some difficulty posting any of the text here: it's coming out including gibberish. Can anyone help? Here's the first sentence, which I think is a comment on Romans 1:1 (there are 4 comments; the other 3 are shorter).

It looks like Greek to me. It may be your browser, possibly?

Looks Ok (well, you have some spurious "20"s, but the rest is Ok). Do you have the font "Palatino Linotype" installed in your machine?

It's a good idea to specify more than one font. Tell me if you see it now.

So, anyone like to have a go at the first couple of words?
