Question "Beyond our understanding"...?

Do theist arguments like "God's reasons are beyond our understanding" or anything like that have any basis in the Bible, Quran or anything?

Romans 9
20But who are you, O man, to talk back to God? "Shall what is formed say to him who formed it, 'Why did you make me like this?' "[8] 21Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for noble purposes and some for common use?

This might not be exactly what you are looking for but it's a start. I can't find the passage I was looking for but this seems to point to what you're asking. I'll do some digging tonight.

peace

Perhaps the question should be: "Do they make any sense? Or are they simply the predictable manipulation techniques of a cult"....

No, the question stands.

I'll take a stab, but I'm just guessing.
Quote:
Romans 11:033 O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!

11:034 For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor?
Or, perhaps you're thinking of this from 1 Corinthians? (though I doubt it)
Quote:
3:8 Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise.

3:19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.

3:20 And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain.
\[ . . . ]
4:10 We are fools for Christ's sake, but ye are wise in Christ; we are weak, but ye are strong; ye are honourable, but we are despised.
Which I would translate, "yeah, I know this religion makes no sense, it isn't supposed to, it's a kind of code to trick those who think they're so smart into hell, you know, like Jesus's parables were not meant to be understood by everyone. Only those like us who are special and know to believe it no matter what will be saved."

Edit to add, oh yeah, forgot this one, also from 1 Corinthians:
Quote:
1:027 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
[(more of the same kind of rational-thought bashing.)
