Default Your opinion of Israel Finkelstein's book

In 2005, Israel Finkelstein, along with another author, published a book titled David and Solomon (or via: amazon.co.uk). I would like to know what your opinion of this book is. I have previously bought The Bible Unearthed.

I've read and thoroughly enjoyed both books. The things I like about it is that the authors present a case that lets you see the motivation behind the writers of the Bible.

I've read the comments in this forum, but I wonder how other scholars in 2008 view the two books? Are they mainstream or are they treated like mythicists in NT scholarship or worse?

A wikipedia article on Israel Finkelstein seems to approach the answer you are looking for: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israel_Finkelstein

So the controversy is that they believe that the Bible becomes history earlier than the mainstream.

This is more of a rhetorical question but why is the "cultural war" around evolution and deep time? I would have thought that this would be more devastating to the book worshippers.
