Default New Book by Freke and Gandy: The Laughing Jesus : Religious Lies and Gnostic Wisdom

The Laughing Jesus : Religious Lies and Gnostic Wisdom

Click on "see all reviews" and you will find an excerpt from Chapter 1.
Quote:
Have you ever seen a picture of Jesus laughing? Probably not, because we have inherited a distorted form of Christianity created by the Roman Church in the fourth century, which focuses exclusively on Jesus the ‘man of sorrows’. The image that has dominated our culture is that of a man being tortured to death on a cross. But the original Christians didn’t see Jesus as an historical man who ‘suffered for our sins’. They viewed Jesus as the mythical hero of a symbolic teaching story, which represents the spiritual journey leading to the experience of awakening they called ‘gnosis’, or ‘knowing’.

In their first book, F&G had "Dionysus was crucified, just like Jesus". In their second book, they had "Jesus was pulled apart into pieces, just like Dionysus". I wonder what they'll have in this book??? I wouldn't trust them on anything.

Perhaps. It is definitely mainstream, design to be popular reading as opposed to scholarly. I bought the first two, and read the first. After that...well. I shouldn't have bought the second before I'd read the first. They don't bother themselves a great deal with support for their theories and assertions.

/me is unimpressed, and not likely to purchase any more of their books.

http://www.nd.edu/~jneyrey1/secrecy.html is a good article showing just how much one early Christian writer valued knowledge and regarded gnosis (knowledge) as something very secret and not available to all.

After having read both the Jesus mysteries and Jesus and the lost goddess by Freke and Gandy followed by The pagan Christ by Tom Harpur ; I have to state that there is not an iota of doubt in my mind that The Jesus of the new testament is a myth ! I look forward to reading their new book .
Peter Gandy was the guest author of the month on the Graham Hancock message board earlier this year where he answered questions by board members .

I think you might be mistaken, gnostics don't get it.
"Knowledge of" is not the same as "experience with".
1.KNowledge of self is not the same as ,
2. Know thyself.

#1 is intellect driven,
#2 is with the help of God.
