Default Can this be genuine scripture?

Or one more piece of local folklore collected by Luke, without regard for accuracy?

“But Jesus turning unto them said,
Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me,
but weep for yourselves, and for your children.
For, behold, the days are coming, in the which they shall say,
Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bare,
and the paps which never gave suck.
Then shall they begin to say to the mountains,
Fall on us; and to the hills, Cover us.
For if they do these things in a green tree,
what shall be done in the dry?”
Luke 23:28-31.

Part of the passage appears to be lifted from Hosea 10.8

Quote:
The high places also of Aven, the sin of Israel, shall be destroyed: the thorn and the thistle shall come up on their altars; and they shall say to the mountains, Cover us; and to the hills, Fall on us.

Are you asking if Jesus actually said that, or are you asking if the claims of the quote are correct?

Nice passage that actually shows that without te heavens above the world is flat after all.

Notice that it is the daughters of Jerusalem who are weeping and they are to be the mothers of the freeborn which will only be when the hills are green and the woods are singing. A short version of this is "the unexamined life is not worth living."

I find it astonishing that a man walking to his crucifixion would stop by the wayside to utter such nonsense.
If Jesus ever said those words, what was going on with his emotions?
Was he vindicative, right there [assuming this passage has some original value]?
