Well, not specifically related to genes, but someone has worked out what sort of society would be needed to produce enough people to have a large enough population around to build the pyramids. Basically, society has to consist mostly of children and pregnant children to get the necessary population growth rates post flood.

That programme needs a slight tweak so that the earlier generations are very biased in favour of women, meaning there are more to have children, which later on switches to 50 50! Ah there is a biblical basis to having more than one wife!!

Mod note: please keep your comments in accord with what is befitting an upper forum.

This question comes up periodically. The question, in spite of its frivolous tone, has been the subject of some fairly coherent commentary. The latest threads on the topic were Where did Cain go? and Who did Cain marry?

But seriously: You know, I wondered about that when I was in the very literalist Church of Christ years ago. I never asked anyone however (maybe back then I didn't want add to my already growing doubts). I don't recall any fundy response to this problem.

I dont think this is a pesky question. I'm just trying to figure out if believers think God created man according to explanations on the bible, dont they think their is something wrong with that explanation?

OK lets say i dont know stich about the bible or creation if someone should explain it to me, what would they say? I mean where would they start? :rolling:
I'm thinking it will go something like this.....= "hmmmm in the beginning....... and then god created adam & eve :banghead:  thats it, i dont know where the rest of the world came from.

all im saying is you have to Believe before Faith

Aren't there thought to be two different creation myths in genesis anyway that later came to be combined?

Yup, but that won't have much effect on believers of most flavours.

I guess not - I was more interested in what the differences were between them and their origins.

The differences are actually quite transparent. The first creation account, Gen 1-2:3, was the latter of the two, written with the Mesopotamian creation from the chaotic waters as the basis, while the second was written with the desert as a background. Nothing could happen until a mist came up out of the ground that could be used to moisten the earth ()DMH, "adamah") so that a craftsman-like god could mould man ()DM, "adam") from it. This was a very physical creation on the part of God, whereas with the first account, all that was necessary was that God spoke and it happened (with a few exceptions).

The first account was added to the front of Genesis after most of the book had been compiled. Gen 2:4 gives the first of the "toledots" (generations) which were used to give Genesis its structure,...

2:4 the generations of the heavens and the earth
5:1 the generations of Adam
6:9 the generations of Noah (repeated at...)
10:1 the generations of Noah
11:10 the generations of Shem
etc.

So Gen 1 was stuck at the front after that system was built into the text.

We've covered the creation accounts a number of times on this forum, so you might check the archives for something more specific.
