Default Why not follow both?

Why do modern Christians only follow (for the most part) the New Testament?

If the bible is the word of God, then logically those who worship God should follow EVERYTHING he said, not just half.

So why only the New Testament and not the old?

Because the first contains unpleasant, inconvenient, and often obviously indefensible things.

It contains all those pesky laws which JC commanded everyone to obey
Mathew 5:17-19, Rev.22:14, Rev: 14:12.

Because we have a different covenent with God then the Jews do. Why doesn't the US follow both it's constitution and the Magna Carta?

So at some point god decided that RAPE was no longer a valid punishment for sin, so he changed the rules? I'm glad that he did a little growing up.

If the Christians had ever made a conscious decision to follow only the New Testament, if it were a matter of official doctrine, then you could ask why they made that choice.

However, it's not a matter of official doctrine, and there wasn't any conscious decision. It's a matter of culture, so the answer is that the New Testament is more suitable for our modern culture. The New Testament contains many things that virtuous people are inclined to agree with, while the Old Testament has a considerable number of things that only the vicious members of this society would want to agree with.

So the OT was repealed? That would be nice, except that I'm pretty sure Jesus made it clear that he wasn't doing away with a single iota of the law.

In fairness, I think the Gospels contradict each other on this point
