Default The Martyrdom of Seven Brothers

I've tried to find scholarly information about this story on the Internet, but that has proved difficult.

Does anyone know if this event is considered historical or "mythical", or a mix of both?

II Maccabees is more a work of edification than of history.
I don't know how you would ever decide if that grisley story is historical or not.

You have also the seven sleepers of Ephesus, and the seven sons of Saint Felicitas. Seven is loaded with esoteric significance.
