Default Jesus- Myth of the Birth of the Hero - Rank

Again IQotH: In Quest of the Hero
Dundes goes on to examine the Hero Pattern as applied to Jesus according to the psychological scheme of Rank, and concludes;
“So Jesus has it both ways: he is the dutiful son obeying a distant, powerful father, but he becomes one with that father – just as boys growing up in circum-Mediterranean housholds have to learn to progress from a close and prolonged association with protective mothers to a world of men dominated by elders to a time finally when they themselves become distant fathers to their own children as they seek virgin wives and attempt not to become cuckolded (like Joseph) ."
pg 216]

My point is that these mytho-symbolic references and their psychological underpinnings, are a small but critical part of the modern mythicist examination of the HJ question.

The late Alan Dundes was interviewed by Brian Flemming in The God Movie.
