Default Hallucinating Jerry Vardaman!...

by a footnote of the book "Chronos, Kairos, Christos" by Jerry Vardaman:

"..When the Nativity Conference was held in December 1985, I suggested A.D. 17 as year when Jesus began his ministry. I now believe that A.D. 15 is more accurate, and have made some changes throughout this essay accordingly"

This passage is found in a footnote (p. 55) of the book "Chronos, Kairos, Christos," which Vardaman produced in collaboration with Jack Finegan and Edwin M. Yamauchi.

Who is Jerry Vardaman?

Jerry Vardaman is Director of Special Programs of the Cobb Institute of Archaeology at Mississipi State University, and Professor of Religion

Well, how credentials are not shabby also!

I do not know if his claims have attracted serious interest or pleasant laughter in scientific world. All I can say is that a serious researcher, which boasts the title of Professor of Religion, before making statements of this caliber, should make sure that you have exhausted all the research necessary in order to climb into the chair and declare what he said! Clearly the research of Jerry Lewis .... ehm ... Jerry Vardaman remained a half, since he ignores "crassamente" (grossly) the basic data, knowledge of which would have prevented him to say the exhilarating "castronerie" he said ... But let's come on with order.

You first need to know that the above-cited Vardaman affirm, on the basis of alleged "microletters" that some of his collaborators have found on some old coins, that Jesus was born around 12 BC. Well, even though it may seem strange, it's just the born-date of the Virgin Mary!.. Does the divine power of the Holy Spirit has been so great doing born Mary with Jesus in the womb? .. We are referring to "strange" times, in which any kind of miracle was possible. Unfortunate that this had lasted a very short ... If its characteristics were protracted in the time, until this day, perhaps there would have been the real hope for Berlusconi to disappear, even after traveling to Lourdes ...

A byzantine historian of the Church (byzantine), lived in the XIII-XIV century, has shown in his work, History of the Church, that the Virgin Mary died in the 5th year of Claudius, at the age of 59 years. As the Emperor Claudius to the throne was confirmed at around 42 year, it is clear that its 5th year is around 47. So, subtracting from 47 the years lived by the Virgin Mary, that is to say 59, you indisputably descend till -12 year: ie the year that the ineffable Vardaman has pointed out as the birth one of Jesus of Nazareth!...

Even before I encounter in this very important data, able to silence all those who still argue that Jesus was born in 6 BC, I had arrived just on the same date of birth of Mary (13 or 12 BC) in a completely different path, but always with the aid of mathematic. The knowledge of the data provided by byzantine ecclesiastic, has caused me a real euphoria, as it confirmed to me that my intuitions about the environment and the background that led to the birth of Mary was right!

For those who wish to know more, add that the historian of the Byzantine Church was Nicephorus Callistus.

Vardaman deconstructed
Quote:
The late Dr. Jerry Vardaman, an archaeologist at the Cobb Institute of Archaeology at Mississippi State University, claimed to have discovered microscopic letters covering ancient coins and inscriptions conveying all sorts of strange data that he then uses matter-of-factly to assert the wildest chronology I have ever heard for Jesus. He claims these "microletters" confirm that Jesus was born in 12 B.C., Pilate actually governed Judaea between 15 and 26 A.D., Jesus was crucified in 21 and Paul was converted on the road to Damascus in 25 A.D. This is certainly the strangest claim I have ever personally encountered in the entire field of ancient Roman history. His evidence is so incredibly bizarre that the only conclusion one can draw after examining it is that he has gone insane. Certainly, his "evidence" is unaccepted by any other scholar to my knowledge. It has never been presented in any peer reviewed venue,[8.1] and was totally unknown to members of the America Numismatic Society until I brought it to their attention, and several experts there concurred with me that it was patently ridiculous.
