And yes he can be annoying. That's true. So what? We're not here to make friends or shoot the breeze. There are other forums on the internet for making friends. You should look at this as an opportunity to interface with a guy who studied at one of the best schools and who can tell you - point blank - whether ideas can work or can't work and why that's so. That doesn't mean he's God. That doesn't mean he's the last word on anything. But surely someone who studied something in a formal setting has advantages and authority that people like you and me don't possess.

I will continue doing what I do. You can continue with your way. But there is a custom in many Latin countries that you refer to a professor as 'doctor' even outside the classroom. It's a sign of respect that he deserves even if he is an annoyance some of the time.

I will hang out an any forum that allows me to correspond with learned people. I actually came here because J Green told me to come. But I stay here because I got to correspond with Andrew Criddle, spin and other people I can't meet at the local watering hole. I suggest you learn to take advantage of the resources here rather than arguing with them for the sake of arguing.

This will be interesting in view of the reply I received when I requested such ;

Would you provide us, please, with an exact copy of your request?

Sorry Jeffrey but the exchange was by PM, the reason that all names other than my own are omitted.
(I could not acess nor discuss this in Forum, without first agreeing to the rules )

You can read the 'official' reply.

NONE of these new rules would be clarified for me. ...Perhaps they will treat you a bit better.

(but that has not prevented me from working on them and challenging these 'new rules' for months in other venues. One of the reasons that 'spin' and I have been having such 'friendly' relations)

PMs are saved and "copyable". Send it to me off list if you feel you can't publish it on list. I just want to see if and where and how my mod request corresponds with yours.

Mods,

Would you lock this thread, please? The question in the OP has been answered.

I'm sorry Jeffrey, but my questions and the consequent replies covered quite a bit of territory and multiple posts, so I do not feel at liberty to divulge all of that material to you.
And yes much of it did specifically deal with the posting of foreign language texts.

However, here is the entire content of the 'official' answer I previously quoted (omitting only the signature)

No, we will not provide clarification.

The rules are clear. If you cannot (or will not) follow them, do not post in BC&H.

If you are confused about any rule, post your question in Ask A Manager or Private Feedback.
Be advised, we will not engage in "rules lawyering" tactics.
Questions about the rules will not generate any changes or allow twisting the intent. The rules are clear.

XXXX
Yeah, if only they were.

But as you can see, if you receive the kind of reply I did above, you would have reason to advise, that 'officially' they are not too amenable to any further explaining of the new Forum rules, or appear very willing to 'engage in rules lawyering'.

So I agreed to follow the new rules. ...with the caveat that I expect others here to be required to do the same.

But you are certainly most welcome to ask away, because I would like to see if your inquires are treated as nicely as mine were.

Sheshbazzar
