What ever happened to Isaac? You know; the kid in the Abraham story. The Bible makes a big to do about him. It gives details about what he is doing and what he is saying on the way up the hill for him to be a human sacrifice. But after he is spared by the angel of God there is no Isaac in the story of the trip back down the hill. Where did he go?

Well, he was a big boy. He could do what he liked.

Wasn't he at least a teenager in the story? If I remember rightly, Josephus places Abraham's age as 125 making Isaac 25 years old when this all happened.

I've been told (by R. O. Bleckman) that there is a Jewish legend that he never saw the angel and while his dad was busy stealing some farmers ram he ran for it. Stopped only to say goodbye to his mom, grab a few clothes, and took off for parts unknown where he lead a life of constant anxiety never sitting with his back to the door in resturants.
I don't know Bleckman's real source, but I like the story.

It has been argued by some proponents of the documentary hypothesis that, in at least one original version of the story, Abraham's hand is not stayed and Isaac is actually sacrificed. Right or wrong, this would certainly account for his absence on the way back down.

Perhaps we should check in with the daughter of Jephthah. Oops. Nevermind.

Yeah, I remember a relatively recent thread on this subject too, if only someone like Toto was around that is so GOOD at finding these things.

And yes, if the story really was that he DID sacrafice his son, alot of things in the overall story would make a lot more sense.
