Default forgiveness 70 times 7

I was wondering if anyone can explain what is meant by Jesus telling Peter to forgive up to this many times. I have noticed something interesting about this in possible relation to Daniel 9:24-27's alleged "weeks of years". Do you think this was similar to 70 weeks of years, 70 x 7 years? Nobody in the NT quotes this as a fulfillment by Jesus though. Or is it just a coincidence that 70 x 7 times of forgiveness relates to 70 x 7 years of Daniel 9? Or did the Jews of that time look at Daniel 9 as simply a prophecy concerning a large, unknown number? I kind of doubt Jesus really meant literally forgive 490 times and then stop right there. That's if one wishes to interpret Daniel 9:24-27's weeks as weeks of years and not literal weeks. Sorry for the rambling.

Any information to help is appreciated. Thanks.
